Lol, thanks Drew. I feel like we have always been on the same page on a lot of musical stuff. Perhaps it is the influence of Erik Todd on us.

You raise a very valid point. In my mind what I was trying to communicate was "don't think you have to be a shredder, especially if your tone is lacking." But the way you say it makes it more clear. There isn't much of a point of having good tone without good technique.

So for anyone who is reading this and you are a shredder with less than desirable tone, the best course of action is to improve you tone.

If you are reading this and you have great tone but can't seem to play to a metronome, it's time to hit the books and the practice chair. Thanks rhoy.

it really is frustrating when you know there is something wrong but can't seem to put a finger on what it is. but what do you do when half the time, you feel this way during rehearsals? :)

btw, i like your list but i would probably move Technique before Tone ... I'm sure that you've heard the cliche that tone comes from the hand. and i do believe that it's true. i don't see/hear too many guitarist with good tone without good foundation/techniques, ihmo.
